Looking back at my fruitful, secondary school life, a lot of cherished moments have nearly caused several flashbacks, until I reminded myself of the fact that I am already a graduate from my alma mater, Methodist College.
Throughout these six years, Methodist College was my other home. I spent countless days and frequent nights here. In terms of ‘parents’, teachers were my guardians. They were always there for me and helped me out. Most of the ‘guardians’ even sacrificed their own personal time, like weekends, to listen to my academic and mental health concerns. Hence, I felt safe and secure around them. In fact, they might know a lot more about me than I do myself or my family, as I disclosed a lot of my secrets to them to seek advice. As for ‘siblings', my brothers and sisters were my schoolmates. We met every day for at least eight hours. Even though we may not have been that close from the first day, after less than a year, we turned out to be besties. We supported each other for different things. We understood each other academically, because we were going through the same tough experiences. We made fun of each other, as laughter was needed on hard days.
I am glad that Methodist College encouraged me to take a lot of ‘first steps’, for example, being a debater, joining the school archery team and last but not least letting me do things I like and giving me full support. In my case, the school let me and my friends form a dance group and perform in the variety shows. I have felt the support from Methodist College from the first day I came here. That is also the reason why I always have the courage to try new things because I know Methodist College backs me up. In order to give something back to the school, I won The Hong Kong Secondary School Debating Competition and was the best debater in the match. Moreover, I was chosen to join the Professor Allen Chan Methodist College Elite Club. I will never forget all of those precious moments held every year, especially during Sports Day: all of the houses trying their very best to compete and cry out our own slogans to show support to the athletes. I felt the passion and tension and I really enjoyed that.
Trust me when I say that Methodist College will welcome you with open arms and provide you with endless educational opportunities here, making everyone feel at home, as it has done for more than sixty years.
