Scrabblers' Triumph at Local & International Stage

日期: 16/09/2019

The Scrabble Team is honored to share their local achievement in both the HKSPA Association Cup 2019 and WESPA Youth Cup 2019.

In the HKSPA Association Cup held in July 2019, the Junior Team overwhelmingly won the Champion title, while the Senior Team came third overall.

The Junior Team, led by the top rising stars - Thomson Law and Ernest So - skillfully demonstrated their effort against the rest of the players from other top schools. Ian Tsoi received the Bingo Machine title and Julian Wong got the High Word prize.

On the other hand, in the senior category, our top player Brian Po, who is the current Hong Kong National Champion, pulverized his opponent by 290 points and was crowned the Individual Champion title. At the same time, Nicole Yu and Esther Wong performed their best throughout the games. Thus, in the end, the team won the 2nd runner-up title in the Senior Category.

Apart from the local tournament, the Scrabble Team of Methodist College shone on international stage too.

In the 14th WESPA Youth Cup, the world’s biggest Scrabble tournament for teenagers held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from November 29 to December 1, 2019, over 190 players from different parts of the world fought for the honor. Brian and the other team-mates, Thomson Law, Ernest So, Julian Wong and Ian Tsoi joined other 5 players from other schools in the territory to represent Hong Kong as the 10 qualified players.

After rounds of competitive games, Brian PO (6B) got overall 8th place, beating other keen players around the world.

Congratulations to the Scrabble Team and our coach Douglas Tsang.
